NRAYSA MEETING MINUTES October 26, 2008 Civic Center 6:00 pm Present: Patrick Flandrick, Dave Mehls, Mike Anderson, Dave Ritter, Debbie Keller, Dennis Brunkhorst, Doreen LaMirande, Mike Weiss Also Present: Jon LaMirande, Dick O’Connell, Chris Creighton, Brian Schroeder A. Call To Order Meeting called to order at 6:06 pm by President Dave Mehls.
B. Adoption of Agenda Dave Mehls made a motion to amend the agenda to add representatives from football to beginning of meeting. They were present to discuss a letter several board members received (also printed partially in the NR News). Motion seconded by Mike Anderson. Motion passed. C. Approve Minutes of Previous Meeting No quorum present at last meeting so no minutes to approve. Football Discussion Added – Dick O’Connell paraphrased a letter sent to NRAYSA board members by a parent whose child participated in tackle football this fall. Several copies of the letter were available for board members to look at. Also present were 2 football club reps responsible for making up the team rosters. Discussion centered around how to address the concerns in the letter. Football club members will get together and draft a letter to send to her describing how the teams are formed.
D. Treasurer’s Report Doreen passed out quarterly income/expenses to club reps. She would like you to look them over and let her know if there are any problems. Bremer account - $15,492.29 WCU account - $8978.06 We made $1428.87 at Homecoming concession stand.
E. Old Business 1. Parkland Update Dave M. is still working with the National Guard to get an engineering battalion to work on grading the new park for 3 months next summer. Should know by March 1st if this is going to happen. The plan is to continue moving north as much as possible. We may have to cover some fuel costs for the Guard and perhaps some other small costs, but it would save a lot of money.
We have approval from the city to borrow $50,000 when we need it.
Patrick Overton is working with the Community Foundation to be major fundraisers (writing grants, etc.) for $15 million worth of projects in NR.
Dave M. would like to put up two 10’ x 12’ storage sheds (one for concessions and one for storage) at the new park. They cost about $1400 - $1500. Motion made by Mike Weiss and seconded by Mike Anderson to spend the money on these sheds.
F. New Business 1. Patrick Flandrick – Soccer Rep. Motion made by Dave Mehls and seconded by Mike Anderson to officially place Patrick Flandrick on the NRAYSA Board of Directors as a soccer representative.
2. 2009 Registration Dates Dave is checking on Feb. 25 and March 1 or March 4 and March 8 as possible dates for registration this spring. We would like to have the pancake breakfast along with the Sunday registration again. Patrick Flandrick said that the soccer club now has someone to help with fundraising who could help with the raffle at the pancake breakfast too. He will check with her and get back to Mike Weiss about it.
3. Concessions Provider Proposal Ron Lundell approached Dave about providing concessions for NRAYSA events. He would give us 5% of whatever he takes in. It was thought that maybe he could work larger tourneys or events at which we can’t sell our own concessions. This will be discussed again later.
4. Proposal for Monthly Meeting Date Changes Discussion centered around possibly meeting Wednesday nights or Monday nights in order to increase attendance. We also discussed not meeting during the summer and maybe picking the next month’s meeting date at each meeting.
G. Sports Clubs Updates 1. Baseball – Discussion about kids feeling pressured by a soccer coach to choose between baseball and soccer. Patrick said the coach is no longer with the club.
